Reflections

So I decided to start the new year with a new blog. We want to let friends near and far know what we’re up to, and lately when people ask, I have a hard time coming up with much to rival 2007. Last year was full of a lot of excitement and change (wedding, new home, early months of marriage), and 2008 has been a lot calmer. I’ve enjoyed the little things: snuggling together on the sofa while watching our favorite shows (lately, it’s House), watching Jamie dance around the house, our anniversary trip to Charleston, swimming in our first pool, working on house projects (landscaping), decorating for the holidays, getting excited about new opportunities with the race scoring business, and just learning more about each other and falling more in love.

We’re really excited about celebrating Jesus’ birthday with our families (the new movie, Four Christmases, describes our holiday perfectly). I took up sewing this year, so I’m looking forward to giving some home-made gifts. So far, they’ve been a hit!

After Christmas, we are going to take a class called Financial Peace University. This course by Dave Ramsey is offered as a small group at our church, and it will hopefully give us a biblical perspective on how to manage our money. As DINKS (double income, no kids), we haven’t been too disciplined in this area. But with the economy slumping and with our own plans to hopefully add an Orr this year, we both feel the need to manage our money more wisely. I’m really excited about this class!
